Victor,

We have not met. I am white, male, 80 years old, of the South-and, a Baha’i. Our blessed Faith , for the past 140 years, makes it abundantly clear that the ultimate answer to racial unity is a spiritual one, recognizing in a profound way that racism is an abomination to our Creator- and that this unity is supported by ample documented evidence that we- black, white, brown, red, yellow, “uncertain”- are truly made by the very same “recipe” . (There is new scientific -genetic – evidence that the first human beings were African , and that we are ALL descended from this tribe of 60,000 years ago !).

In a way this identification with each other is not unlike the unity of a deep, eternity-long marriage, in that we need to recognize that we NEED each other, that limited to our own “color”, we are less than completed, less than whole. Frankly, I love the music, food, emotions, and spirit of my more deeply pigmented friends, and , in bonding with them, I am still more human ,happy, relevant. And, Victor, with all this in mind, realize that I AM AFRICAN-AMERICAN, TOO – - -.

Well put, Victor. I also am a Baha’i and am very interested in understanding the different experiences and viewpoints of White and Black persons in regard to racial issues. We must listen to each other. Thank you for your beautiful writing and spirit of Unity on this crucial issue.

I am 82 years of age and have been ashamed of a country so gloriously formed due to the injustices inherent in it’s formation, particularly racism, which includes the original peoples of North America as well as those imported as slaves. I urge you to read Jacob Needleman’s book, :The American Soul”

The pain in the very bowels of my soul has been caused by this anguish and wrong doing those of us that are white have ignored by our arrogance.

I am immeasureably thankful that this blight on our country is being talked about, in terms that will help us dispel this cancer from our country forever.

You put it so wonderfully, Victor. It will up to us to look into our own hearts and soul, and decide about what we need to do , regarding this racial issue, and do our utmost to heal ourself and the others. We have lived too long in fear of being hurt by the people of different races or the fear of hurting them by our mistaken approach. We need to get real with each other and be more genuine with each other and love each other more. We are all human and we share same joy and pain. Only through the power of the Belove Lord and through our love for Him, can express our love to Him by loving our fellow human being.
A long time ago, I came from a country that used religion to deny the right of living for Baha’is and other minorities and of course this denial is still going on in full course right now. Right now I am living in this wonderful county called America and we are at the period of history that at least we can discuss the injustice of the isms. There seem to be a new conscience developing that is creating awareness of the joy and pain of other human beings beside ourself. As I mentioned above, it is time for all of us to take advantage of this awareness and freedom to bring about Sen Obama’s desire for unity. We have a powerful toll to achieve it, through teachings of Baha’ullah, the prophet/Founder of the Baha’i Faith. Please God, we may achieve it!

Americans (because I am from UK) have choice next Nov and that choice will rebound on global politics.

We need sober voices of reason and tranquility to get through the hide bound world of prejudice.
